Diwali, ook wel genoemd ‘Festival of lights’ is één van de grootste festival van de Hindoes, die door alle Hindoes wordt gevierd over de hele wereld. Het is de enige feest die in alle streken van India wordt gevierd.

Voorafgaand aan het Divali festival zal men een grote schoonmaak houden, straten worden versierd, rommel opgeruimd.

Divali wordt gevierd voor 5 dagen maar de derde dag is de belangrijkste dag. Op deze dag zal men in alle reinheid een oneven aantal Diya’s of kaarsen aansteken in het huis en rondom het huis.

Men kookt diverse heerlijke vegetarisch gerechten, doet een puja en vraagt aan Lakshmi mata, geluk en welvaart.

Divali is ook het Nieuwjaars feest en natuurlijk hoort daarbij vuurwerk bij. Het feest is niet compleet zonder het uitwisselen van cadeau’s.

Day 1,Arrive Delhi

Delhi - is a city that bridges two different worlds. Old Delhi, once the capital of Islamic India, is a labyrinth of narrow lanes lined with crumbling Havelis and formidable mosques. In contrast, the imperial city of New Delhi created by the British Raj is composed of spacious, tree-lined avenues and imposing government buildings. Delhi has been the seat of power for several rulers and many empires for about a millennium. Many a times the city was built, destroyed and then rebuilt here. Interestingly, a number of Delhi's rulers played a dual role, first as destroyers and then as creators. On arrival meeting, assistance at airport by our representative and transfer to hotel. Day 2 ,Delhi

Swami Narayan Akshardham Temple- Akshardham is a Hindu Temple complex also referred to as Delhi Akshardham or Swaminarayan Akshardham, the complex displays millennia of traditional Hindu & Indian culture, spirituality, and architecture. The Temple, which attracts approximately 70 percent of all tourists who visit Delhi, was officially opened on 6 November 2005. Day 3,Delhi – Haridwar (200 Kms / 4.5 hrs)

Haridwar - Haridwar or Hari-dwar in Hindi literally means Gateway to God; Hari is synonymous to God and Dwar means gate! Situated in the state of Uttarakhand, this holy place is a famous religious destination that invites people of various faiths and background. Haridwar depicts Indian culture and civilization in its full effect. The ancient Indian mythology refers to Haridwar as Gangadwar, Kapilsthan and Mayapuri, as also known in olden times. On arrival, check-in at hotel. In the evening one can visit Har Ki Pauri & be the witness of Ganges ceremony (Aarti) - a famous ghat on the banks of the Ganges. This revered place is the major landmark of the holy city of Haridwar. Literally, "Har" means "Lord Shiva" who is the god according to shaivite Rishav school of Hindu theology, "Ki" means "of" and "Pauri" means "steps". Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu are believed to have visited the Brahmakund in Har Ki Pauri in the Vedic times. There is a large footprint said to belong to Lord Vishnu on a stone wall.
